Halibut are always on the move but July is the best time to catch the amazing fish in South/East Alaska. The Phoenix Lodge is located a stones throw from the Pacific ocean in what is know as the "inland passage." The big and rough waters of the ocean are calmed by the hundreds of islands of the inland passage and makes for much calmer conditions when fishing for halibut and all the other ocean species of the Pacific. If you have never fished for halibut, you owe it to yourself to give it a go!
This picture represents a good day's fishing on the inland passage. You see silver salmon (Coho) as well and the large white halibut. All are exceptional table fare!
Nothing like beer batter halibut!
